1. What health documents do I need to show on arrival in Kenya? 

To enter Kenya, you will need to present the following health documents: a) Proof of vaccination status: It is essential to have documentation that confirms your vaccination status. This helps ensure the health and safety of both residents and visitors, as it minimizes the risk of contagious diseases being introduced or spread within the country. b) International certificate of vaccination or prophylaxis (ICVP) (yellow fever certificate): If you are coming from a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission, you must possess a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. This certificate serves as evidence that you have been vaccinated against yellow fever and helps prevent the spread of the disease within Kenya.  

 

2. Will I need to undergo a health screening while arriving in the country? 

Upon arrival in Kenya, you may be required to undergo health screening, which can include temperature checks for fever and other necessary screening measures. This helps identify potential health risks and ensure the well-being of all individuals in the country. Additionally, you may be asked to fill out a health declaration form that asks about your current health status and any recent exposure to communicable diseases to help authorities assess potential health risks and take appropriate measures to safeguard public health.  

 

3. What are the health requirements when departing from Kenya? 

Passengers traveling out of the country are required to comply with the specific health-related requirements set by their transit and destination countries. These requirements may vary depending on the destination country. Check with the relevant authorities, such as port health officials, airlines or embassies for the most up-to-date information to ensure a smooth and stress-free departure from Kenya.  

 

4. Where can I get Yellow Fever vaccination and certification? 

You can receive Yellow Fever vaccination and certification at selected Points of Entry/Exit and other designated facilities in Kenya. It is recommended to get vaccinated at least 10 days before your travel. If needed, you can also obtain a replacement vaccination card at these facilities. Valid identification documents are required for the vaccination process.  

 

5. Where can I get COVID-19 Vaccination services?

6. What are the health requirements for the import and export of food and chemical substances? 

You will require the following documents 

  • Commercial invoice 
  • Certificate of analysis 
  • Import permit 
  • Export permit 
  • Safety data sheet 
  • Hygiene license (Export)

Health requirements for importing and exporting food and chemical substances can vary based on the country and the nature of the products. It is recommended to consult regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with the specific health requirements.  

 

7. What are the requirements for the transportation of human remains 

Answer: Notification should be done to Port health officers at least 24 hours prior to the arrival, transit or departure of the human remains. All human remains shall be accompanied by the following documents for the health clearance: 

  • Embalming Certificate stating that the dead body/human remains have been embalmed, including details of the chemical used. 
  • Death Certificate issued in English or Swahili. 
  • Personal Identification Documents of the deceased. 
  • Letter from Kenyan Diplomatic Representatives in the country where the death occurred. 
  • Burial Transit Permit or Cremation Certificate 
  • Letter of approval from the Director General of health in case the death was as a result notifiable disease.

Please note that all human remains must be placed in a hermetically sealed casket, which is airtight and waterproof. This ensures the integrity and containment of the remains during transportation.

 

8. How can I stay updated on travel health advisories? 

Regularly check the Ministry of Health Kenya website for the latest information and travel advisories. It is also recommended to register with your embassy or consulate in the country you're visiting to receive important notifications and alerts. By staying informed through these channels, you can stay updated on any travel health advisories, guidelines, and potential risks to ensure a safe and informed travel experience.
