The Directorate of Public Health Intelligence and Population Health provides leadership and strategic
direction for detecting and preventing public health emergencies while protecting populations from
harm caused by natural and man-made factors.
It also focuses on formulating and implementing policies, establishing mechanisms for public health
threat prediction and detection, coordinating multi-sectoral collaborations, overseeing surveillance
and risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with global health security strategies to improve
health outcomes.
The above is achieved through:
Predicting and detecting diseases and other public health threats.
Preventing zoonotic, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and other emerging health events.
Coordinating elimination of selected NTDs.
Preventing foodborne diseases.
Preventing drug resistance and promoting infection prevention.
Promoting and improving socio-cultural practices that protects communities from threats
that lead to poor health outcomes.
Travelers’ and border health.
