The Kenya National Public Health Institute [KNPHI] is conducting a week-long staff audit at the designated Points of Entry (PoEs) across the country to ensure the right number of competent personnel are in place to detect, prevent, and respond to health threats, thereby protecting national and global health security.
Besides, the processs is critical for ensuring operational security, compliance, and efficiency. It serves as a diagnostic tool to identify skills gaps, support the workforce planning and policy development necessary in improving screening of travelers and timely reporting of unusual health events, reducing the risk of cross-border disease spread.
The exercise being presided over by the KNPHI Human Resource Management is taking place in the countrywide 28 designated PoEs including airports, ports, and ground crossings which areย mandated by the international health regulations [IHR] 2005 to develop and maintain core public health capacities.
Border and Migration Health is a key division under KNPHI in the Directorate of Public Health Intelligence and Population Health that provides leadership and strategic direction for detecting and preventing public health emergencies while protecting populations from harm caused by natural and man-made factors.
During outbreaks, disease pathogens can be transmitted across geographical borders through movements of humans, animals and goods thus need for strengthening capacity for ย Cross-Border Surveillance.
