The Kenya National Public Health Institute [KNPHI] is convening a national States Parties Self-Assessment Annual Reporting Toolย (SPAR) workshop to review and validate Kenya's performance across the 15 International Health Regulations (IHR,2005) core capacities and identify priority actions for strengthening national health security.

The 4-day exercise in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) Kenya Country Office and Palladium is bringing representatives of various divisions involved in relevant technical areas ย ensuring an inclusive, multisectoral
assessment that reflects Kenya's collective progress in achieving IHR(2005) compliance.

The Objectives of the activity are:

โ—To gain an understanding of the IHR Monitoring and Evaluation Framework, and introduction to the SPAR
โ—To review the SPAR 2024 Reportย
โ—To prepare the SPAR 2025 Reportย

The SPAR platform which offers detailed historical data on global health security, tracking progress in emergency preparedness and response is a critical self-assessment exercise that enables WHO Member States to identify critical gaps, prioritize investments, and strengthen their ability to tame pandemics, and to meet Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).

Following the Joint External Evaluation conducted in September 2024, Kenya validated its second-generation National Action Plan for Health Security (NAPHS II) last week ahead of its official launch later this year.

This is significant in the countryโ€™s quest towards ensuring that national capacities for health emergency preparedness, response and recovery are planned, built, strengthened and sustained, to serve vulnerable populations.
