The Kenya National Public Health Institute [KNPHI] in collaboration with Sanku Kenya has conducted an inception meeting aimed at establishing Food safety digital inspection tool thus revolutionize public health by replacing paper-based processes with real-time, data-driven mobile apps and cloud platforms.

Sanku, a key stakeholder in micronutrient fortification with the mission to end malnutrition in Africa by ensuring food reenforcement with life-saving nutrients has committed to supporting the process at the development stage and tailoring level in the two counties namely Nairobi and Kiambu.

Among the project objectives includes;

● Strengthen regulatory oversightΒ
● Improve inspection efficiencyΒ
● Enhance fortification compliance monitoringΒ
● Support data driven decision-makingΒ

The KNPHI acting Director General Dr Kamene Kimenye speaking during the event lauded the program saying Food Safety and Adequate Nutrition are foundational initiatives of public health geared towards addressing the dual challenge of foodborne diseases and micronutrient deficiencies.Β

She noted that the proposed Integrated Digital Inspection Platform presents an opportunity to shift from reactive, manual, and fragmented systems toward a proactive, risk-based, and data-driven model of oversight. By integrating food safety inspection data with fortification monitoring information, this platform has the potential to enhance regulatory efficiency, improve compliance tracking, and strengthen evidence-based decision-making.

A centralized system enhances traceability, standardizes reporting, and improves oversight. It ensures that compliance with fortification standards is not just a policy requirement, but a measurable and enforceable reality.

Also present during the one day meeting is representative of Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Β who reiterated their commitment of working with the Kenyan Government to find innovative solutions to strengthen the country's food supply chains,which play an important role in improving well-being of populations.
