Food Safety and Nutrition Reference Laboratory (FSNRL) is located within the Division of National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), Ministry of Health. FSNRL is ISO 17025:2017 accredited for: Analysis of total aflatoxins in cereals and pulses, determination of ethanol and methanol in alcoholic beverages and determination of Iodine in table salt among others. The laboratory is recognized as one of the COMESA regional-certified laboratories for the analysis of total aflatoxins. FSNRL is also the designated testing laboratory for the annual household-level salt Iodization monitoring in Kenya. FSNRL’s mandate is to perform specialized laboratory tests aimed at the prevention, diagnosis, and management of diseases of public health importance associated with food contaminants (Chemical), micronutrient deficiencies, uncontrolled use of regulated food additives and food adulteration.
