Export Health Clearance
Ensuring the health and safety of exported food products is crucial. The following unique documents are required for specific food items:
- Fish: - Export Permit or License from the Fisheries Department.
- Milk & Milk Products: - Export Permit or License from the Dairy Department.
- Meat & Meat Products: - Veterinary Certificate from the Veterinary Department.
- Tea: - Export Permit or License from the Tea Board. • Phytosanitary certificate from Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS).
- Coffee: - Export Permit or License from the Tea Board. • Phytosanitary certificate from Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS).
- Eggs and Honey: - Veterinary Permit from the Veterinary Department.
- Other manufactured Foodstuff: - No specific document is required (refer to common documents).
- Cereals, Grains, and Fruits: - Phytosanitary certificate from the Country of Origin.
Obtaining these export health clearances ensures that the exported food products meet quality and safety standards. It helps to prevent the spread of diseases, pests, or contaminants that could pose risks to human health. In addition to the documents listed, you may also need additional documents for the 8 items, such as a recommendation to export from the relevant Country Government, food hygiene license, invoice, and certificate of analysis where applicable. Human Remains
Handling human remains with utmost care and adhering to health regulations is crucial and it helps maintain public health and safety standards. When dealing with the transportation of human remains, notify the Port health officers at least 24 hours prior to the arrival, transit, or departure of the human remains. All human remains shall be accompanied by the following documents for the health clearance:
- Embalming Certificate stating that the dead body/human remains have been embalmed, including details of the chemical used.
- Certificate issued in English or Swahili.
- Identification Documents of the deceased.
- Letter from Kenyan Diplomatic Representatives in the country where the death occurred.
- Burial Transit Permit or Cremation Certificate.
- Letter of approval from the Director General of health in case the death was as a result notifiable disease.
Please note that all human remains must be placed in a hermetically sealed casket, which is airtight and waterproof. This ensures the integrity and containment of the remains during transportation.
